Just last season we saw the Packers trade for All-Pro Edge Micah Parsons, giving up two first-round picks as well as defensive tackle Kenny Clark. They also had to pay Parsons, giving him a four-year, $188 million deal.

There have been many rumors surrounding the possible trade of Maxx Crosby recently, and they just keep heating up. A team I have seen linked to him over and over is the Chicago Bears, who just traded wide receiver DJ Moore to the Bills for a 2nd round pick, which is likely just more capital to go get Crosby. The Raiders are asking for two firsts, and a solid player in exchange for Crosby. He is also set to make $121 million over the next 4 seasons, an average of $30.25 million per year.

Obviously, it wouldn’t be a good thing for the Lions if this were to happen. The Bears won the NFC North last season, and adding an All-Pro Edge rusher would just add to their stock. With 69.5 sacks in his six-year career, he is clearly among the elite in terms of pass rushers.

As of now, the reports are saying it’s between the Bears, and the team who just traded Parsons- the Cowboys. Personally, I wouldn’t really like either landing spot, as the Cowboys already have an elite offense, and just added Quinnen Williams to their defensive line via trade. Either way this goes, its not good for Detroit, as two contending teams in the same conference would add a key piece to their playoff push.

With that said, I want to be abundantly clear about something; I do NOT want the Lions to make this deal. Obviously having a player like Crosby would be awesome, but with the draft capital the Raiders are asking for, along with the money Crosby is set to make over the next few years just don’t fit the Lions. We have too many holes right now to fork over two first round picks as well as the $30M+ he will receive per year of his contact. It would hinder the Lions ability to add players in free agency and the draft, which is not what we want heading into the next decade.

Either way, the Bears would have to give up a lot of capital, as well as pay him, which wouldn’t bode well for their future. However, we already saw Chicago make a similar trade with Las Vegas for stud pass rusher Khalil Mack, where they gave up two firsts and more. I could see Chicago, Dallas, or him just staying in Las Vegas, if no team will pony up the draft picks.

So far, rumors are saying it will likely be the Bears, Cowboys, Eagles, Rams, or Patriots. We shall see where he ends up, but lets hope its not a contending team in the NFC. Fingers crossed its New Englad, who would make sense considering they just made it to the Super Bowl with their young team. Strike while your quarterback is still on a rookie deal.

*UPDATE* It has been reported by Trey Wingo that the Dallas Cowboys believed they had an offer done last night, but other teams jumped in with offers including multiple first-round picks. It sounds like the Cowboys are now pulling out of the deal and shifting their focus to free agent edge rushers, namely Trey Hendrickson formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals.
