The Lions’ road to a third consecutive NFC North title just got a lot more challenging. The Green Bay Packers traded for defensive end Micah Parsons today and elevated themselves to Super Bowl contender. The Packers also signed Parsons to a four-year $188 million extension.
Detroit had been mentioned in the media as a possible trade partner to land Parsons. Perhaps in the days to come it will be revealed if they made an offer.
The possibility of Parsons playing Game One, when Detroit visits Green Bay, on September 7, raises the must watch meter. The Lions and Packers are favorites to win the division and will likely battle all the way to the final week of the season.
DraftKings has the Lions and Packers both at +700 to win the conference and represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
Parsons is a two-time NFL All-Pro. He and the Cowboys could not agree on a contract extension, with both sides seeming to grow apart as training camp came to a close. Parsons has 52.5 career sacks, never finishing with less than 12 in any season. He was drafted 12th overall by the Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft.
