Michigan (13-5) is surging, winners of three straight. The team has three players ranked in the Big Ten’s top 25 in scoring. Their scoring prowess is also reflected in the team’s Big Ten scoring rank, which is sixth of 18 teams, at 81.4 points per game.

Minnesota is undefeated at home this season  (11-0, 17-2 overall), but according to SI.com’s Tony Liebert, the Gophers “still lack a marquee win.”

The highest ranked individual Minnesota scorer is at 33rd in the Big Ten, but both teams have four scorers in the top 50. The Gophers’ scoring rank is seventh in the Big Ten, at 77.9 points per game.

Both teams can score.

The difference in this game could come down to defense. Michigan ranks ninth in the Big Ten, with opponents scoring 62.2 points per game against the Wolverines. Minnesota gives up 54.9 points per game to opponents on the season, second best in the Big Ten.

Advantage Minnesota.

Rebounding on the season is a push, with Michigan grabbing 40.7 boards per game. Minnesota brings down 40.6 rebounds per game.

Prediction:

Michigan has the more potent scorers overall and has averaged more than 85 points per game during its three game winning streak.

The Wolverines are also more battle-tested, having faced the elite of the conference already. Minnesota has those games upcoming.

Look for the Wolverines to hit a big bucket late to pull this one out 75-73.
