Michigan Football finished with eight wins and five losses last season, ranked 36th in the final Associated Press poll. The bright spot of the season was a 13-10 victory over eventual national champion Ohio State. It was a clear rebuild year after winning the national championship themselves (and beating Ohio State) the season before. Sports books and pollsters are split on how good Michigan will be next season.

Michigan is +200 to make the College Football Playoff, the 13th best odds, behind Boise State, per DraftKings. They are +2500 to win the national championship, with the 10th best odds, by DraftKings.

ESPN writer Mark Schlabach published a “Way-Too-Early” top 25 poll May 8, ranking Michigan at no. 20, saying, “Many of Michigan’s best defensive players are returning, but the Wolverines are going to have a difficult time replacing star defensive tackles Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant.”

ESPN writer Bill Connelly, on July 18, published a B1G-centered prediction piece, placing Michigan fourth in the conference and 10th nationally.

“Even with the uncertainty and variance I bake into these conference title odds, it’s very much a “big four versus everyone else” thing here, with Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon and Michigan combining for a 70% chance of winning the league. It feels as if it should be closer to about 90%,” Connelly wrote.

USA Today has just released a poll by its Big Ten network of writers. Michigan is picked to finish fourth in the league, behind B1G champion to be Penn State, and Ohio State and Oregon.

Looking at the Wolverines’ schedule, the team has a good chance to go undefeated in the regular season. The biggest threat is Ohio State, on Nov. 29, at home and the last game of the regular season. The team should be near peak performance, with phenom Bryce Underwood past any growing pains. Running the ball will be five-star recruit and Alabama transfer, Justice Haynes, and sophomore Jordan Marshall, who showed he is capable of carrying the team to victory with his 100-yard performance against Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl to end last season with a win. The defense will be formidable.

Sherrone Moore is a proven winner. He will get the most out of this team in 2025. I’m betting Michigan surprises the experts and wins the Big Ten Conference before a deep run in the College Football Playoff.
