Auburn’s Johni Broome dominated. He finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds in limited time due to a hyperextended elbow. Michigan State never pushed the pace on Auburn, seemingly forced into its half court offense where it could not hit shots when it mattered most. Auburn built a double digit lead.

Michigan State shot 34.4 percent from the field for the game. Junior forward Jaxon Kohler led the Spartans in scoring and rebounding, with 17 and 11. Senior guard Jaden Akins scored 15 points, and freshman Jase Richardson was shut down in the second half, scoring only two of his 11 points.

This was a game Auburn won early and held on to throughout. Michigan State chipped away at points in the game, but the outcome never seemed in doubt.

Auburn now advances to play Florida in the championship semifinal of the Final Four.

Michigan State’s run in the NCAA Tournament ends in the Elite Eight, 70-64.

After the loss, Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo said, ““In 30 years I’m not sure I’ve ever been more proud of a team… Most unbelievable year I’ve had… most connected year I’ve had,” per Robbie Lastella, on X.

Congratulations to the Michigan State Spartans’ players and coaches on a successful season. Winning the Big Ten regular season title is worthy of a banner in the Breslin Center. This Elite Eight run in the NCAA was impressive and entertaining.

Thank you.

Hopefully key players like Richardson and Kohler run it back next season for the Spartans. Izzo will be back, so expect another fierce and formidable squad.
