A day after signing 49ers cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, the Detroit Lions are once again adding to their secondary. This is the second off-season in a row that Brad Holmes has made the cornerback position a top priority.

It’s being reported that seven-year veteran Avonte Maddox is signing with Detroit.

Maddox is a two-time Super Bowl champion, and until this off-season, he spent his entire career in Philadelphia. He brings valuable experience and much needed depth to a Lions defense that was overwhelmed by injuries in 2024. Maddox was born in Detroit, Michigan, and his hometown team will now become his second NFL franchise.

Maddox also brings some versatility to the team, having also played linebacker and strong safety in his professional career. His primary position is nickle corner.

The 28-year-old still has some good years of football ahead of him. Maddox was on the field for 345 snaps last season and received a 56.3 overall grade from PFF. One of his most interesting stats is his 71.9 pass rush grade, which is amongst the best for cornerbacks in the league.

The Detroit native joins Terrion Arnold, D.J Reed, Amik Robertson, Ennis Rakestraw, and Rock Ya-Sin, among others, in the Lions’ cornerback room.
