Big Skip is back.
It was reported by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN that longtime Lions offensive lineman Dan Skipper has re-signed with the team on a one year deal. Skipper has provided a ton of versatility to this offense in the past two seasons and has continued to prove that he is exactly the type of player that Campbell wants on his offense.
Dan Skipper started his NFL journey in 2017 when Dallas picked him up as an undrafted free agent. Five days after being let go from their practice squad, he was picked up by the Lions during the Jim Caldwell era. Skipper would then get released the following season, and hopped around to the Broncos, Patriots, and the Texans. He then returned to the Lions again in 2019 and was promoted to the active roster as a defensive lineman in the week 17 game against the Vikings. After being cut again in September of 2021 and going to the Raiders, only to be let go soon after, he returned to Detroit two months later.
Campbell and company sought to get the best out of Skipper, and that they have. He appeared in a career-high 16 games that season but was let go at the end of it. After a month of squadding it up again in Indianapolis, he got another shot in Detroit in 2023. After a botched officiating call in the final seconds against Dallas, Skipper made a name for himself. From being the tallest active player in the league to giving it all week in and week out, Dan Skipper has earned his payday.
