Matt Vierling, 2024, MLB.com
As Spring Training rolls on, one Tigers starting bat is being shut down. The team released a list of their medical updates on the morning of February 28th, on which listed Matt Vierling, who will miss the remainder of spring ball. It’s said to be a right shoulder sprain for the presumed starting third-baseman slash corner outfielder. It’s not certain how long Vierling will miss, but it’s already been determined that he won’t be healthy enough in time for opening day vs the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 27th. Vierling had posted career-highs in Hits, Runs, Home Runs, Extra Base Hits and RBIs in 2024. Depending on the severity, this injury could take up to 12 weeks for a full recovery. Look for him to return sometime in late April to early May.
Vierling joins Parker Meadows as current Tigers outfielders who will miss spring training and potentially regular season time due to injury. A timetable hasn’t been determined for Meadows as of yet.
