The Detroit Red Wings sit on top of the wildcard standings with a two point cushion over the Ottawa Senators. Patrick Kane scored the game winner Sunday night against Anaheim, and now, just a day later, a member of the Red Wings is headed west to become a member of the Ducks.

Ville Husso, a five-year NHL veteran, once topped the Wings’ depth chart between the pipes. However, the injuries he has suffered in the past few seasons derailed his career in Detroit.

Husso played in nine games this season. He has a 1-5-2 record and allowed 27 goals on 202 shots faced. He’s on pace to play by far the least amount of time on ice in his career (438:49 time on ice this season).

Husso was the Red Wings’ lead goaltender in the 2022-23 season, having played in 56 games. He had a 26-22-7 record, .896 save percentage, and a 3.11 GAA. He faced more than 1600 shots. His stats and ice time plummeted after his first year with Detroit.

Husso played 57 games in two seasons for the St. Louis Blues before coming to the Motor City. The Anaheim Ducks become his third organization.

The Red Wings acquired “future considerations.” in the trade.

Red Wings’ Current Goaltending Situation

Cam Talbot has been a very good addition to the team after signing as a free agent this off-season. He has a 16-11-3 record in 32 games. His .905 save percentage and 2.80 GAA is a big improvement from what the Red Wings had between the pipes last season.

Alex Lyon has been very solid as the Red Wings’ back-up, having won 11 games. He has a .902 save percentage and a 2.74 GAA.

Sebastian Cossa allowed two goals and won his NHL debut this season. His development continues in the AHL playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins.
