The Detroit Lions are hiring longtime North Dakota State OC Tyler Roehl as an Offensive Assistant for the upcoming season. Roehl spent 8 seasons with the Bison and another season as Iowa State’s assistant head coach/running backs coach.

Roehl actually had a brief stint in the NFL as a running back for the Seattle Seahawks back in 2009, but suffered a knee injury and was released after that season. After coaching at both the collegiate and high school levels, he looks to get his feet wet in the big leagues.

In his last season with the Bison, Roehl led his team to the #3 ranked offense in the FCS. Tennessee State HC and Titans Legend Eddie George soon called for Roehl’s aid in crafting their offense for a brief period. After that, he went to Iowa State where they achieved a victory in the legendary Pop Tarts Bowl over the Miami Hurricanes while achieving a program-record 11 wins.

The Lions are looking to get their first Super Bowl berth in franchise history this upcoming season. Although Roehl is not the missing piece in the eyes of fans, he very well may be instrumental in putting together another historic season for the Motor City.
