It has happened, the Pistons have made a trade. However, it is probably not quite the move fans were hoping for new General Manager Trajan Langdon to make.

The Pistons are acquiring Forward KJ Martin and two 2nd round picks from the 76ers. The Pistons didn’t give up any capital, as the 76ers needed them to eat Martin’s contract. It is not everyday that you see trades like this. The 76ers needed to make this move to get under the apron, which saved them quite a bit of money. Detroit being the only team able to absorb the contract made it so the 76ers had to pay a decent price.

Martin, 24, is due $8 million next season, and there is a chance he doesn’t stick in the roster past Thursday. It sounds like the Pistons are still working the phones ahead of Thursdays deadline. If he isn’t moved, Martin could actually be a solid addition for this team. He is averaging 6.4 PPG, 3.0 RPG, and 0.8 APG while shooting 61.6% from the field and 38.1% from 3 on 20.0 MPG. He is a pretty efficient scorer, although you’d like to see more volume with the amount of minutes. He likely won’t make a big difference, but an efficient wing that can shoot wouldn’t hurt. He hasn’t played since December, due to a foot injury he suffered earlier in the season. The 6’6″ 215 pound wing should be available pretty soon, as he was back at practice with the 76ers prior to the trade.

Martin is not a real needle mover, however you can’t say no to free. As I said before, I wouldn’t be surprised if Martin is traded again, as Detroit needs to add some help for Cade if they want to make noise in the playoffs. They are currently sitting at 25-25 on the season, ranking them 6th in the West. However, they will be without Jaden Ivey for quite a while, and they are looking around the league for ways to improve the roster. Tobias Harris, Tim Hardaway Jr, and Simone Fontecchio should all be viable trade candidates. Stay tuned as the deadline is tomorrow at 3PM. The Pistons are likely not done.
