Per Jon Heyman, the Detroit Tigers are signing righty reliever Tommy Kahnle to a 1-year, $7.75M contract.

Kahnle has spent the last 2 seasons on the Yankees, and has also played for the Dodgers, White Sox and Rockies throughout his career. Heading in to his age-35 season, Kahnle provides a reliable bullpen arm, who the Yankees utilized in many high-leverage situations. He’s got a nasty change-up and plenty of swing-and-miss stuff with a 36% whiff-percentage. He had a .257 wOBA vs LHH
and a .301 wOBA vs RHH in 2024.

Over the last 3 seasons, Kahnle has a 2.44 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 108 strikeouts to 41 walks over 96 innings. He should slot in nicely to a bullpen that has been near the top of the league under pitching coach Chris Fetter’s watch. Tommy ranks slightly below average in walk rate, but Fetter has proven himself as a top pitching coach, if not the best, in the league.

Kahnle joins 2B Gleyber Torres and SP Alex Cobb as the Tigers’ external Free Agent signings in the 2025 offseason, so far.
