NBA All-Star starters have been announced, and Detroit’s Cade Cunningham was left off the roster. This is criminal, preposterous, a severe lapse in the collective judgment of those responsible in the selection process.
NBA.com details that All-Stars were selected by 50 percent fan voting, 25 percent current by player votes and 25 percent by select media members.
Pistons fans are to blame. There’s simply not enough of them. Consider that New York Knicks fans voted en masse for Jalen Brunson, who Cunningham out-dueled on Jan. 13 at Madison Square Garden. That night, Cunningham scored 36 points to Brunson’s 31, and the Pistons topped the Knicks 124-119.
But that doesn’t matter when New York City has the largest population in the U.S., at more than 8.5 million people, per politifact, based on U.S. Census estimates. Detroit is 21st, with only 677,000 people.

Brunson voters will point to his 26.0 points, 7.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game averages this season. Solid numbers. But Cunningham is averaging 24.6 points, 9.4 assists and 6.5 rebounds per game.
The Knicks are in third place in the Eastern Conference, at 29-16 overall. Admirable. Solid first half of the season. But the Pistons are in sixth place and surging. Detroit is 23-21, winning seven of its last 10, whereas; New York is just 5-5.
Rise up, Detroit. Let your voices be heard. Cade Cunningham deserves to be an NBA All-Star this year.
There is still time.
NBA All Star reserves will be announced Jan. 30. You have to make NBA head coaches aware that Cade Cunningham is a rightful All-Star. It is NBA head coaches that will decide on the 14 remaining roster spots, seven for Eastern Conference players.
Post about it on social media with the tags @NBA, #NBAAllStar and @MISportsMedia. Call in to local and national radio shows. Send letters to the editors of local and national newspapers.
