It is official, Ben Johnson will be the newest Head Coach for the Chicago Bears. This one stings, being with Detroit since 2019, after having been brought on by Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn. Smartly, Holmes and Campbell kept him on. Even giving him a promotion. Campbell called plays year one, for the most part, before handing the reins to Johnson. We all know what happened next.

Lions fans knew it was coming, but this was worst case scenario. Jacksonville and Las Vegas would’ve been much better spots, at least for fans. Unfortunately, Chicago likely was the best spot for him. Having just spent the #1 overall pick on a franchise QB, with a plethora of weapons to boot. This definitely feels like a slap in the face to many, as initial fan reactions are very upset. Which is understandable, the Lions just lost a huge playoff game, where the offense had 5 turnovers. With one being a very questionable call to have Jameson Williams throw a pass in the 4th quarter, which led to an interception.

Since taking over in 2021, Johnson led the Lions to multiple top 5 finishes in almost every offensive statistical category. Breaking records along the way. He essentially revitalized the Lions offense single-handedly. He was definitely a difference maker for Detroits recent string of elite offenses. Now, he will be taking his talents to the Windy City.

The Bears know what they are getting. They are hoping Ben will bring along Caleb Williams, and form him into the elite Quarterback he was drafted to be. Not to mention the offensive talent around him. The Bears also have DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, D’Andre Swift, and Cole Kmet. Realistically, they are set outside of offensive line. Which they will likely add this offseason.

Unfortunately for Lions fans, the sting of the offseason is even worse now. Now, we have to beat him. It will be fun to see how this chapter plays out. I fully expect this move to heat up an already hot rivalry.

Now it is onto the offseason. Keep an eye out for more articles from us, as things are bound to heat up. The Lions will likely be hiring new coordinators, as well as other spots on the staff as they are poached. This is one unfortunate part about now being an elite franchise, everyone wants a piece of the pie. Look at San Francisco and Los Angeles. McVay and Shanahan have dealt with this since day one. Obviously it is a little bit different, as Dan doesn’t call plays for us. But hopefully we can keep this train rolling with the new hires.

We will keep you up to date, expect articles soon with possible replacements!
